SS-31 / Elamipretide (mitochondria-targeting tetrapeptide)

SS-31, also known as Elamipretide (and previously MTP-131 or Bendavia), is a mitochondria-targeting tetrapeptide. Its distinguishing feature is the ability to accumulate selectively within mitochondria — the cell's power plants — where it binds a lipid called cardiolipin. It is among the most clinically advanced compounds of its kind, having been studied in human trials for conditions involving mitochondrial dysfunction.
